An Overview
of the Artist
|
Norman Grochowski Born in the U.S. 1946 Art has been a spritual journey for me. It is my inward vehicle of outward expression. Forget about what the critics say of art. If ever you see an art work that inspires you or uplifts your heart, then purchase it as an investment in your soul. People can adorn themselves with jewelry and that's fine, the ego is a part of us and wants it's food. But the Spirit also needs things to sustain it. Art is one of the most important ways of encouraging this sustanance. Purchasing art as a monetary investment is okay, but never mistake it as an investment in your soul. If people truely knew the real value of investing in their spiritual growth, there would be fewer spiritual dwarves running this planet. The ego can never have enough military protection, enough possessions, enough of anything to make a human feel fulfilled. It will always crave for more. I am comfortable in the knowledge that the spirit in each of us will struggle to grow even if we starve and neglect it totally. My artwork has always provided me with a portal into the mystic realms that exist all around us. In the early years I attempted to right the wrongs of the world through my work, this was a road any good artist will take in his or her youthful idealism. It served its purpose for that time and led me to other roads inward. I went down many many highways exploring everything I could, using a miriad of techniques and approaches. I eventually came to the place where I allow the work to create itself. It knows what it wants and unfolds itself to me. I now know that I have nothing to do with its creation except to perform as well as I can. The True artist can only listen to the voice of the work and follow it's direction. That voice will manifest itself on this three dimensional plane called earth. The True artist is fortunate to be the chosen vehicle for the Art work's decision as to who shall steward it into this realm of the universe. Wonderful Art has It's own wonderful purpose. Yes, you are probably thinking that I believe that Art is an entity unto itself. You don't know the half of it and I would never attempt to explain this to you. So look around in life and feed your spirit and I'll leave you with a paraphrased fragment from a poem written centuries ago to encant the spirit. "Awake! For the Bird of Time has but a short way to fly and the Bird is already on the wing." |
